Lindsey Graham kinda responds to gay rumors
At Justice Sotomayor’s confirmation hearings, Senator Lindsey Graham asked her about anonymous comments offered by a range of lawyers. These comments were negative, mostly having to do with the Justice’s temperament.
Leaving aside the fact that Justice Scalia’s acidic demeanor never seemed to bother any of the white male Senators called upon to confirm him, I did think it was notable to ask a nominated Justice to comment on accusations made by anonymous accusers.
I especially found it interesting because there is no shortage of rumors regarding Senator Graham’s sexual orientation. That puts Graham in almost the same position Justice Sotomayor except nobody that I know of has asked Senator Graham to respond to the rumors. What’s more, if Graham did have gay relations while a member of the military, he broke the law.

Wow, that video was a waste of time. I love the way Progressives, Libs try to use perceived personal issues of politicians. If the pol is a lefty, then they can do no wrong, whether it’s being gay, or being a tax-cheat (Charlie Rangels) or being a misogynist (every Dem. The Dems are just the OTHER party of old, white men, including Pelosi). This Senator is one of the more centrist Republicans and consistently votes against Repub backed issues, yet you try to attack him because he “may be gay.” Why not treat him as a human being and appeal to his centrist side? You are stuck in ideology land. If he’s Repub, he’s bad. That does nothing to help gay rights and nothing to help Progressives. Also, he obviously never heard your remarks accusing him of being gay, so this video was completely bogus.

Laura, try actually reading what Mike wrote about the video. I know that’s hard for you to do, knee-jerk reaction and all, but give it a shot. I’m sure you would agree that since Graham finds it reasonable to confront others with anonymous accusations, he should be comfortable handling them himself. I also find it interesting that you consider calmly asking him a question to be “attacking” him.

This video is really designed to show Lindsay Graham’s hypocrisy. If he is gay, who cares, but the fact that he consistently votes against issues of concern and interest to gays and lesbians makes this type of questioning fair game. This is the same reason that Ensign’s and Sanford’s extramarital affairs are an issue, because they have placed themselves on pedestals as “holier than thou” when it comes to “family values”. If you play this game and then get caught you deserve to be attacked and brought before the court of public opinion for your hypocrisy.

Laura,
I did not know Pelosi was an old white man. Thank you for clarifying this important matter. Did you know Bush is a transvestite????

Very interesting. Laura’s nonsensical rant aside, I think she is right about Graham not hearing the question. It may have been an artful dodge, but Graham was talking when Stark said the word “sexuality,” and it’s clear from the follow-up comments that he was not addressing the issue. Limited value here, folks.

You are an awful human being, maybe one of the worst currently on the planet. Lithe Lindsey Graham is a man of honor and decency and intense morality. Who the heck are you to chase him down a hallway and throw your dirty personal questions in his beautiful face? He should have had his bodyguards take you into some back alley for a Carolina-style talking to.

Laura,
Many posters on the Daily Kos, including prominent ones, have been calling on the Dem leadership to step up about Rangel as they did earlier about Jefferson.
Stephenson,
Why is it so bad to ask him about his possible homosexuality considering his voting record and the rumors. Don’t you think politicians should be asked about questions regarding hypocrisy

My, my, my! How dare some uppity blogger ask such a respected Senator from the honorable state of Lowest Carolina if he would respond to the persistent rumors swirling around his delicate little head if he is gay. I think these sort of critters don’t regard themselves as gay, so we need to change our tact and just ask bluntly if they’ve ever had sex with another man? That’d be more to the point with no room for wiggling and stammering and hemming and pontificating and….well you get the idea.

Laura, remember how the Right went after Clinton? Just because he was a Dem? I do. Remember when they didn’t treat HIM as a human being? I do. Don’t get me wrong, he was a HUGE disappintment, especially to LGBT causes. But, where’s your outrage about that?
But this isn’t about Right or Left, Repubs or Dems. This is about someone rumored to be gay voting against gay causes. Treat him as a human being? If asking him to defend himself or explain isn’t treating him as human, what is? Why should he be allowed to dictate policy as to how the lives of others are managed and governed if he can’t himself be open and honest?

Laura, since when is calmly asking someone a few questions considered an attack? Me thinks Laura wants to be getting herself some of that Lindsey Graham booty. (fat chance!)

Let’s just stop asking them questions that we know they will hem and haw and not be forthright about. Let’s just start taking pictures of these hypocrits and printing them.

to my knowledge a civilian having sex with a US military member breaks no law, even though the act may have criminal liability for the servicemember. It definitely could end his or her military career, whether or not any crime is committed or prosecuted.
